Re: nvmm: Linux Kernel panic in QEMU+nvmm (in i7-8650 only?)

*Perhaps I found it*. It wasn't a NVMM issue (at all), but mostly a
(Linux) kernel thing.

I switched (yet again) my setup back to the Intel Core i5-3470 PC where
QEMU+NVMM is able to boot my virtual machine, just to try doing a
experiment. Happens that the Virtual Machine had installed the
'linux-hardened' package which provides the anthraxx/linux-hardened
(check Github) for of the Linux kernel.

I installed the 'linux' and 'linux-lts' packages then, and changed back
to my Thinkpad. And guess what? QEMU+NVMM was able to boot the
linux-lts kernel!

However it wasn't able to boot 'linux' nor 'linux-hardened' (obviously)
and both complained with the same "init error" issue.

This kind of details usually should not be missed when reporting things
like this on the mailing lists. Sorry for that! My bad :(

However, this doesn't seems to fit well because it still raises the
ever pending question: Why SPECIFICALLY the Intel Core i7-8650 machine
wasn't able to boot 'linux-hardened' (and probably 'linux') while the
Intel Core i5-3470 did? And also, why Devuan and Debian image disks
didn't booted if they're supposedly ship with the Linux LTS kernels?

I omitted the usual NVMM "Unexpected [RW][DR]MSR .*, ignored" error
logs because it kept logging the usual stuff everybody is used to read
when booting Linux (and NetBSD and others) OSes in QEMU.

My next journey will be trying to supply a self-compiled Linux kernel
(or maybe a public one, like one of the Devuan's vmlinuz+initrd.gz
files) and boot them manually using QEMU's -kernel and -initrd options.
I'll come with more interesting information soon ;)

For the dear mailing list lurker that may have issues with Arch/Artix
(and possibly Void) Linux in QEMU+NVMM and facing the same issues as
me: *try to avoid the newest linux kernels and choose linux-lts maybe*

- Mosh!~
