If your IPv6 connectivity is OK, then installing NetBSD in QEMU at least--no
idea about vbox--is painless. Eg. installation under QEMU:

Man-power thing, I think: pkgsrc runs on many OSes, and every one of them,
except NetBSD, has its own native pkg manager. Without a lot of testing,
pkgsrc can't go around fiddling with stuff in /etc--or elsewhere. This is also
why pkgsrc changes stuff mostly in `/usr/pkg' (or whatever the installed base
dir. is). Everything else is left up to the user.
