No, that is no good reason for it.
There must be a "domain" or "search" entry in /etc/resolv.conf.

If the provider is adding that unexpectedly in their DHCP reply, you can
make resolvconf(8) ignore it via /etc/resolvconf.conf's "exclude"
option.
