When you use the modular-xorg stuff, then you have to install the
corresponding packages. In this case x11/xdm.

When you install the package you get a message like:

The following files should be created for xdm-1.1.17:

        /etc/rc.d/xdm (m=0755)
            [/usr/pkg/share/examples/rc.d/xdm]
