Re: NVMM + QEMU seem to make newish Linux kernels panic

Hi,

When booting a QEMU VM using NVMM on some recent Linux ISO images
(Alpine Linux, which uses Linux 6.18, and Ubuntu 26.04 beta,
which uses Linux 7.0rc), I get the following Linux kernel panic
inside both VMs:

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill the idle task!

I don't have that problem when not using NVMM, although the VM is
obviously horribly slow. I don't have that problem either with
older Linux kernels (6.12 is fine).

I'm using NetBSD/amd64 11.0_RC3 with qemu-10.2.2 from pkgsrc.

Does anybody else have the same problem?

Hi, I confirm that Debian with linux kernel 6.12.57 works fine in NetBSD-11.0_RC3 under qemu+nvmm. I do not have 6.18 kernel to test.

Regards.
