My headphone requires 3.3V or above in order to be able to record.
Some mic jacks do not provide power at all. This might be the reason why
your mic does not work.

But you might have another issue if your headset uses TRRS connector.
There are two standards that wire mic diffently: CTIA and OMTP.
CTIA: L, R, G, M
OMTP: L, R, M, G

There are adapters that let you split TRRS connector into two TRS.
