Thank you for your suggestions!  You were right, there were no logs.

Unfortunately, i could not type anything after "boot -c".  I assume it
is because this computer only has USB ports and no PS/2 keyboard.

I guess you were right about the video driver too.

What i found is that when i do a custom installation and de-select
set "Graphics driver firmware", then the system will boot after
installation and i can log in at the console.

dmesg shows intelfb0 at i916drmkms0
