Well, that was frustrating, but I got the file... ^C a few times and then put up with super slow nonsense - keyboard missed keypresses it was so slow, but I typed really slow and was able to get the dmesg.boot, below. As for controller's, only ATA was an option (this is a 10+ year old, somebody bought it at walmart computer) - perfect for playing with netbsd, if I can get past this :).
