In emwm you can put these in .Xresources:

Emwm*renderTable: variable
Emwm*renderTable.variable.fontType: FONT_IS_XFT
Emwm*renderTable.variable.fontName: Droid Sans
!menu font size
Emwm*renderTable.variable.fontSize: 9
Emwm*renderTable.variable.fontStyle: Regular
