cdrecord

I haven't burnt a CD in a while, but with a pkgsrc cdrecord 3.01a23
on -current/amd64 of today, I see:

cdrecord: faio_wait_on_buffer for writer timed out.

the CD spins, and nothing seems to happen. cdrecord seems stuck in

 6829 root     191    0    17M   11M getxs/2    0:00  0.00%  0.00% cdrecord
23338 root     190    0    17M 5444K getxs/1    0:00  0.00%  0.00% cdrecord

Any thoughts on how to avoid making coasters?
