Installation fails because of 2 CD drives
Hi,
i am trying to install NetBSD-6.1.3-amd64.iso on a real amd64
machine with PC-BIOS, two CD-ROM capable drives, PS2 keyboard,
USB mouse.
The BIOS insists in booting from the ATAPI drive, which in the
upcomming NetBSD becomes cd1. The installation system kernel
tries to mount its root filesystem at cd0a, which is the SATA
drive.
Is there some expert boot option by which i can tell the installation
kernel to mount cd1a ? (The keyboard works in the boot menu.)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Symptoms:
If there is a medium in the SATA drive, i get a complaint that
no /dev/console exists and no /sbin/init can be found.
If there is no medium in the SATA drive, i get SCSI errors about cd0,
"missing medium" and "tray closed". There seems to be a prompt for a
device address other than cd0a, but the keyboard is dead.
Blind toggling and Return does not bring any progress.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Motivation:
The situation will be aggravated by a third CD-ROM, which is
emulated by the Sandisk USB stick, onto which i want to install
NetBSD. (It pretends to be a USB hub with CD-ROM and disk storage.)
I have a virtual NetBSD-6.1.3-i386 running, but that cannot
reproduce the SCSI passthrough quirks which Freddy Fisker experiences
with his real NetBSD-6.1.2 and SCIOCCOMMAND.
Before filing a bug report (where ?) i want to become able to
reproduce the problems by myself.
Have a nice day :)
Thomas
