Yes, I didn't use that guide but this one:

My fonts have been rebuilt and indexed and made available to Xorg. I
can see and set them up in Firefox but the underlying quality hasn't
improved much.

The only improvement is that pdf's look better with the in-built pdf
viewer and I can use Google docs.

I am using X from the base system, so some tools and config files I
used on Slackware are not available on my system.
