wedges, disk access, smartd/smartctl

Hi,

when trying to access a `wedged' disk with smartctl or smartd, both
tools fail with:

        # smartctl -a /dev/wd0d
        Smartctl open device: /dev/wd0d failed: Device busy

Is there a workaround for this?
