I would suggest two things:

 - first, please try the NetBSD-5.1 RC4 instead of 5.02. This is what is
   supposed to be released as NetBSD 5.1 realy soon

 - if that crashes too, please try to get us a bit more details about the
   crash. Before it enters the db> prompt, there should be a PANIC: messsage,
   maybe slightly obscured by being intermixed with the installer output.
   If you are using a screen console, a picture from the screen may help
   (send it to me off-list if you can't make it available via http somewhere),
   or even better: if using serial console, just capture the whole install
   process and mail the last few kb of the log.
