connection quality from Germany to *.NetBSD.org
Hi,
the quality of my connections to *.NetBSD.org is rather poor due to
packet loss.
Using "ping -c 1000" I usually lose between 10% and 25% of the packets
to *.NetBSD.org and www.isc.org.
I did some tests with some arbitrarily chosen sites in the USA
(128.59.48.24, 128.83.40.145, 169.229.131.81, 143.166.224.244).
There was a loss of at most 3% to 128.59.48.24 and 169.229.131.81, the
other addresses could be reached perfectly.
The output of traceroute shows this
1 217.0.116.205 (217.0.116.205) 52.089 ms 53.094 ms 51.495 ms
2 217.0.76.194 (217.0.76.194) 51.082 ms 52.439 ms 52.690 ms
3 217.239.40.53 (217.239.40.53) 206.901 ms 206.848 ms 205.127 ms
4 * int-2-0-2-501.r1.pao1.isc.org (149.20.65.10) 210.718 ms 212.243 ms
5 int-0-0-0-0.r1.sfo2.isc.org (149.20.65.130) 213.979 ms 213.662 ms *
6 int-0-2.r1.sql1.isc.org (149.20.65.1) 210.755 ms 211.355 ms 211.530 ms
7 * www.netbsd.org (204.152.190.12) 211.510 ms 209.378 ms
Sending ICMP packets to 217.0.76.194 and 217.239.40.53 works perfectly
but testing 149.20.65.10 immediately shows the packet loss problem.
It looks as if the "wire" between 217.239.40.53 and 149.20.65.10 or one
of its endpoints is the cause of the problem.
I would like to get some reports from users in Germany using Deutsche
Telekom or one of the resellers as their provider.
Do you see packet loss with "ping -c 1000" to *.NetBSD.org?
My dynamic IP addresses usually fall into the 217.87.*.* range.
Loss reports are probably of no interest to the list, so please reply
to my e-mail address.
ciao
Klaus
