printing from java app

I am trying to print from a java application to a parallel printer but
cannot do so.  Communication from NetBSD to the printer is fine because
I was able to print lptest 70 5 > /dev/lpt0 successfully.  I am using
sun-jre15 from pkgsrc which uses linux emulation.  I was also
unsuccessful printing to a usb printer from the same java app, even with
libusb installed.  But I understand from some research that this cannot
be done. . .?  Is there any way to print to the parallel printer from
the java app?  I'm running NetBSD 4.01.  Thanks!
