Any chance your Shark is big-endian?  AIUI that's a run-time setting, and
the NetBSD/Shark page doesn't seem to say.

Not sure what difference that should make.
The serial port is byte oriented anyway, so byte ordering of larger integer quantities shouldn't come into play here.

But maybe there is somethng in there that I missed?
