Motorola Surfboard 5101E not working under netbsd-5_BETA

Greetings!

I have a problem about my above montioned Motorola Surfboard 5101E cablemodem
not working under netbsd if tried to be used through USB. I describe my
situation, to prevent linux-like wokrarounds: use the ehternet port instead.

This is the situation of my netowrk setup
==========================
I connect to the net thru a cable modem. I'm boulding a router box now, that
is to be a small home server aswell. I don't have a managed switch, only a
few simple ones. I have a crappy wifi-router (draytek vigor2900vg). I'd like
to use the wifi-router as a wireless AP only, as other functions are not very
reliable, and are limited. I'd like to bridge re0 and ath0 on my router box,
and serve net fot the LAN through them. This box (intel atom based) has only
one onboard lan, and one pci, that is taken by the atheros card. If i
connected the modem through the ethernet:
a) i could serve net only through the wifi, that is not as reliable, and if we
consider, that i would need to us the draycrap as a wifi->wired that is not
very reliably too, wired computers would get very unreliable service, that is
the cause for invest to this small machine instead of the draycrap.
b) i could connect the router and the lan, and the modem trough a switch, but
this way a race condition would take place, between the lans dhcpd and the
modem's builtin one.

If i used the modem as cdce0, a usb network appliance, this unfortunate
situation would cease to exist, but i'm open to different, and realisable
solutions.

This is the description of the problem if cdce0
==============================
Now, after the long introduction, about the problem some coding in the netbsd
sources can solve:

when i plugged the modem, dmesg complained about cdce0:

cdce0 at uhub2 port 2 configuration 1 interface 0
cdce0: vendor 0x07b2 product 0x5101, rev 1.10/1.01, addr 3
cdce0: could not find data bulk in

but the thing ceased to work, ifconfig -a did not list it. I tried the
attached patch, that did not work, but i'm curious if i started in a good
direction.

the result was: the kernel detected the device twice at the same time :) still
no luck. I attack a dmesg of this try, as this one is only a bit double.
double.

Thanks for the help.
