I've only Intel systems with more than 4GB RAM.
My only machine with >= 4GB is AMd. :(

Could this be one reason ?
I don't think so, based on an earlier review of the processor handbook.
I will check again.
azalia0 at pci0 dev 6 function 1: Generic High Definition Audio Controller
AAZA: Picked IRQ 21 with weight 1
azalia0: interrupting at ioapic0 pin 21
azalia0: host: 0x10de/0x0371 (rev. 162), HDA rev. 1.0
Never used this on a >4GB system (who needs audio on such a system ? :)
I don't use it - not ever. So unless it's screwing things up in the
background (timer-based tasks?) I'd say it's not the culprit.
nfe0 at pci0 dev 8 function 0: vendor 0x10de product 0x0373 (rev. 0xa3)
APCH: Picked IRQ 22 with weight 1
nfe0: interrupting at ioapic0 pin 22
nfe0: Ethernet address 00:1e:8c:3e:2b:95
Hmmm. This is a most likely candidate. I use NFS extensively.
