can i skip this step?

Not if you don't want to risk to turn your system into a door stopper.

I do it like step and output is:

linyin# /usr/src/usr.sbin/postinstall/postinstall -s /usr/src -d //
fix defaults mtree obsolete

You should start with ...

/usr/src/usr.sbin/postinstall/postinstall -s /usr/src -d / check

... look what actually needs to be fixed.
