Big problems with 4.0 and Dell PE 2950
Hello,
I have problems wih my Dell PE 2950 (Perc 5/i) (FROST). The machine runs
exclusively database (mysql and postgresql) and after some days in
operation the machine turns into "panic-mode" and conplains over "panic:
bnx0 Double mbuf allocation failure!". Previous the machine was running
NetBSD 4.0_BETA2 wihout any problems, but after we installed two
harddrives and upgraded the system to NetBSD 4.0_STABLE it has been more
insecure, instable. I have tested to increase nmbclusters in the kernel,
and downgraded in revision for if_bnx.c to 1.1.4.5 without any changes at
all. The best uptime I've got was 25 days, then it went into panic-mode
again.
On my other machine (NIXON) (also a Dell PE 2950 (Perc 5/i)) I run NetBSD
4.0 without any problems, but this machine has SAS hdd instead of SATA hdd
and with more memory (6GB), otherwise a completley identical hardware-set.
The thing that separates them in operation is that this one runs CVS
services and not any databases at all.
Can the loadbalance that have a decisive influence on whether this happens
or not?
What perplex me is why does this happen and do you have some advice how to
go further? I have checked through the IPMI "set -log" and haven't found
any ECC failures or other hardware failures issues. Maybe NetBSD-current
would be a solution for me? How stable is it to run this system in
production, any suggestions?
The last solution is to try and "switch-back" to the NetBSD 4.0_BETA2
kernel but it feels like the machine was a lot faster with the stable
branch (4.0_STABLE). To take a step backwards is not the most optimal at
this point.
I attach the dmesg --output from the both machines so you can compare. I
need the DB-machine in production as fast as possible, so I hope you can
help me :-).
Best regards,
--
