That's the mail equivalent of a source route, not an error. :)

It's specifying a mail route through localhost, which many MTAs will
successfully complete as they usually know who localhost is and allow
relaying there. A standard exim eg won't because in the default config
it doesn't want to understand '%' syntax in local_part, but sendmails
(of course :) and postfixes will.

Using % syntax is somewhat evil, but the mental image of botnet clones
sitting and teergrubing themselves by trying to deliver to their
own SMTP port was just too funny to pass up. :)
We'll see how connected to reality that is in the future I guess.
