Nfe works fine here:

4.99.38, 4.99.54
        AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 152, 2613.55 MHz
        nfe0 at pci0 dev 10 function 0: NVIDIA nForce4 Ethernet (rev. 0xa3)

4.0     AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 148, 2211.43 MHz
        nfe0 at pci0 dev 10 function 0: NVIDIA nForce4 Ethernet (rev. 0xa3)

The systems only worked fine after I upgraded the firmware to the latest
image Sun provided.
