There's a question. It all happened just when I hit ctrl-C during the ftp.
(I tried the ftp again, again when I hit ctrl-C the messages appeared.)
(This wasn't when I restarted wpa_supplicant)

syslogd[316]: recvfrom() unix `/var/run/log': No buffer space available

is all I have to go on in /var/log/messages (assuming that was at the
same time)
