Neither have I, but it's good to know the problem exists elsewhere too!

As another data point, on my 7.0_BETA machine (kernel from May 29) with 
Intel drmkms graphics, enabling HAL results in a different sort of 
strangeness: the key release event seems not to be processed 
sometimes (or something similar; in any case, the computer behaves as if 
you keep pressing the key).
