yes, but you need packages :-)
Generally no one provides precompiled packages for -current.

You may not even find package for 7.0_BETA that are named for stable
branches.

For the most part, it should be possible to install 6.1 packages and use
them, but you may have to get the old shlibs from a 6 and 7 system.
But, you can't mix building locally and packages from a different
system.
