wd4 and wd5 are master and slave on the same controller (although they're
sata, the pciide spec present them as master and slave on the same controller).
So it's possible that a misbehaving disks cause the controller to hang for
both drives.

If you have a large number of drives in the box it could also be a power
supply issue.
