Intermittent computer freeezes, USB?

Hi,

I notice that I have intermittent computer freezes. It doesn't happen 
always (sometimes I work stable for hours, but perhaps, the next 
reboot... it will freeze). When it freezes it appears that both mouse 
and keyboard do not respond (not even keyboard lights change, you cannot 
change consoles...).

I'm running a recent-ish kernel:

Sometimes it is just a lag, the system recovers after a minute or so.. 
sometimes not.
It appears that sometimes recovery can be helped by hitting ctrl-alt-del 
and/or plugging out the external USB mouse and using the touchpad). But 
perhaps I am just being hopeful and it is totally unrelated, since it 
doesn't work always.

I notice I get these kernel messages after boot completes:

uhci3: host controller process error

Any ideas? Suggestions? Somebody has similar troubles? I am unable to 
narrow it down.
I often use the laptop by remotely logging in and exporting X11 and it 
appears more reliable! Sometimes it locks up as that I can't type in 
after logging in, but if not... it works. When using it "locallY" it 
appears to me more prone to lock-up.
