It turns out that if you have at least one network interface with no IP
address assigned, the kernel refuses to export file systems (bug).

Hmmm. I've got my system with a fwip0 configured but no address, and it exports mh /home just fine. Custom kernel built from sources updated on 2009-05-22 at 13:11:03 UTC.

Either it needs to be something more -current than yesterday, or there is some other condition that is also required? Or a specific type of interface?

        {103} ifconfig fwip0
        fwip0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
                address: 00:11:d8:00:00:d3:b7:f7
