nice error

I just noticed the following:

        {199} nice -n 5 ls
        nice: Badly formed number.
        {200}

This is on a amd64 system running 5.99.8 kernel and userland (same error 
occurs on 5.99.7 system).

The man page synopsis seems to imply that the command syntax is correct.

        SYNOPSIS
             nice [-n increment] utility [argument ...]
