First end-user tests: NetBSD5/i386, NetBSD5/amd64 vs NetBSD 4.99.72/amd64

Hi,

I've spent some time on testing new RC2s and would like to share results. I thank all developers in advance for great improvements!

---------------------------------------------------------
Test machine:
---------------------------------------------------------
Notebook / Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz chip, 2 GB RAM
All NetBSDs have wapbl enabled partitions (log)
NetBSD5's use X11R7 while NetBSD 4.99.72 uses modular Xorg
Also KDE and Firefox have been installed to test NV performance on X11R7 vs modular Xorg

---------------------------------------------------------
Extracting 42 MB pkgsrc.tar.gz
---------------------------------------------------------
NetBSD5/i386 => 49 secs
NetBSD5/amd64 => 46 secs
NetBSD4.99.72/amd64 => 90 secs

---------------------------------------------------------
Compressing 150K files in 29K folders
---------------------------------------------------------
NetBSD5/i386 => 157 secs
NetBSD5/amd64 => 201 secs
NetBSD4.99.72/amd64 => 330 secs

---------------------------------------------------------
Copying 400 MB compressed file from ram to disk
---------------------------------------------------------
NetBSD5/i386 => 7 secs
NetBSD5/amd64 => 7 secs
NetBSD4.99.72/amd64 => 12 secs

---------------------------------------------------------
Copying 150K files in 29K folders
---------------------------------------------------------
NetBSD5/i386 => 4 mins 40 secs
NetBSD5/amd64 => 4 mins 47 secs
NetBSD4.99.72/amd64 => 13 mins 5 secs

---------------------------------------------------------
Responsiveness of nv driver (subjective)
---------------------------------------------------------
NetBSD5/i386 starting firefox => 5 secs
NetBSD5/amd64 starting firefox => 7 secs
NetBSD4.99.72/amd64 starting firefox => 7 secs
Overall performance of KDE is much better on both NetBSD5 ones compared to 4.99.72 with modular Xorg.

Best regards,
Cem
