I have a Thinkpad X61 with a iwn0. It happens to me also. I have started to run wpa_cli. There I see disconnect events. The time between the disconnect events seems random. But whenever I had it running the reassociations will timeout and then succeed on the 7th try. So there must be something magic about number 7 after all... ;-) 11:30:03.770: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - Disconnect event - remove keys 11:30:05.792: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:30:15.900: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:30:17.921: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:30:27.018: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:30:29.040: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:30:39.147: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:30:40.159: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:30:50.266: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:30:52.287: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:31:02.395: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:31:03.406: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:31:13.514: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:31:15.535: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:31:15.535: Associated with 00:40:10:10:00:03 11:31:15.535: WPA: Key negotiation completed with 00:40:10:10:00:03 [PTK=TKIP GTK=TKIP] 11:31:15.535: CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED - Connection to 00:40:10:10:00:03 completed (reauth) [id=1 id_str=] 11:31:27.665: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - Disconnect event - remove keys 11:31:28.675: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:31:38.783: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:31:40.804: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:31:50.912: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:31:51.923: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:32:02.030: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:32:04.052: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:32:14.160: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:32:15.170: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:32:25.278: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:32:27.299: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:32:37.407: Authentication with 00:40:10:10:00:03 timed out. 11:32:38.418: Trying to associate with 00:40:10:10:00:03 (SSID='dd-wrt' freq=2437 MHz) 11:32:38.418: Associated with 00:40:10:10:00:03 11:32:38.418: WPA: Key negotiation completed with 00:40:10:10:00:03 [PTK=TKIP GTK=TKIP] My kernel is from evening of Aug 4, 2008, so sources are likely from that day also.
