Yes, I've read that thread, but reverting sys/arch/x86/x86/intr.c to rev. 1.49
like you did no longer works:

/cvs/src/current/sys/arch/x86/x86/intr.c:178: error: unknown field 'pic_dev'
specified in initializer

Unfortunately I don't have any older kernel binaries to test...  Do you still
have a -current kernel from early May that I could try?
