parallels VM/Leopard, MTU overruns but ne2 emulated doesn't support mtu flag..

I'm getting ethernet frame overruns when fetching some stuff in pkgsrc:

ne2: discarding oversize frame (len=1528)

ifconfig ne2 mtu 1440 reports

ifconfig: SIOCSIFMTU: Invalid argument

by default, we do path MTU discovery. Its the same if I turn that off.

Hmm. is this maybe a parallels bug, and its mis-framing the NAT  
wrapping somehow?
