The versions of fontconfig and libXft were recently upgraded in
-current.

The first thing that pkgsrc does is to rebuild fontconfig, freetype
and libXft.

What would be needed to be updated to make base X11 usable by pkgsrc,
or changed in pkgsrc to make it less strict?

I'm guessing that it is freetype that is out of date, last update in
xsrc was 2020-10-21 to version 2.10.4, pkgsrc is version 2.13.0.
