I've been fiddling with lua bindings for things (sysctl mostly) with a 
long term view to doing stuff like that.

There's nice things you can do with javascript and canvas on the browser 
side and spitting out data as json on the server side - graphs/graphical 
displays of server status, sort of like a systat/vmstat but with colour 
:)
