As a random data point, I have a Raspberry Pi OS system and a normal
Debian system, and I just went through updating them from 12 to 13.
After apt update, I did apt dist-upgrade. (This is surprisingly similar
to how pkgin had ug and fug and then we realized only one made sense,
but but still has the wrong way and the right way, it seems - but I'm a
little boggled.)
This prompted me with a list and disk spaces consequences, are you sure?
I said y<cr> or some such and it seemed to start. I left it, expecting
to check back in hours and be done. But no, after some time it decided
to put a bunch of upgrade notes into a pager and hang until the human
interacted. I didn't really look, but my quick take was that the strong
majority were things that did not IMHO merit a human interaction
requirement.
That's really just an example of how not to do it, and I think it argues
that normalizing a requirement for user interaction is troublesome.
