We've been there and you should be old enough to remember. The result
was a lot of silent breakage that no one ever cared to clean up.

I remember that other people insisted on unreasonable choices, yes.

Having the same arguments over and over again is incredibly tiring. Rather than criticizing people for committing the crime of (checks notes) caring about pkgsrc quality, I suggest actually working on a patch that will implement this as a configurable option.
