In hindsight, I was fighting libtool, not rust.

rust is used to implement the backend for the C frontend.
So yes, they are compatible (for now) but when new symbols get added,
2.40.x will perhaps not be suitable for all librsvg users. And I don't
plan on fixing 2.40.x in that case...
