That's in my view fine. It was very easy to "git log -p -1" on them,
given that they applied without issues and there are already commit
messages to paste in.
I applied both to CVS. It took only a few minutes of thinking, plus
waiting to make sure that it all built ok.

That's totally fine - it's about as low effort as it can be for me to
apply them. If what's in CVS changes other than from hoisting your
patches, I'd suggest syncing wip to CVS, so that the commits from git
will apply cleanly.
