That isn't a "change of direction announcement", it's a project Yuuki
Enomoto is working on.

NetBSD/pkgsrc do not impose strong choices about where Xorg comes from.
You can use Xorg from pkgsrc if you wish, and not install the X sets.
I assume even with basepkg it is still possible.

The current choice for NetBSD is to continue with base Xorg.
Keep in mind that NetBSD ships a release with a binary & functional Xorg
even for architectures like m68k, and to provide the same from pkgsrc
would take large amounts of work.
Any change will have to be for select architectures only.
