Announcing the pkgsrc-2017Q3 release

The pkgsrc developers are proud to announce the 56th quarterly release
of pkgsrc, the cross-platform packaging system. pkgsrc is available
with more than 18000 packages, running on 23 separate platforms; more
information on pkgsrc itself is available at https://www.pkgsrc.org/

We celebrate the 20th anniversary of pkgsrc, created on August 20,
1997, with quarterly branches continuously since pkgsrc-2003Q4.

For the 2017Q3 release we welcome the following notable package
additions and changes to the pkgsrc collection:

 - 723 updates combined to packages for perl, python, and ruby
 - 47 new go packages
 - ocaml 4.05.0 and supporting packages
 - Firefox 55
 - gdb 8.0.1
 - qemu 2.10.0

We say goodbye to:

 - teTex 3 (in favor of texlive)

The following infrastructure changes were introduced:

  - Stack protection (SSP and Fortify) is enabled by default, for
    platforms that support those mechanisms

In total, 247 packages were added, 74 packages were removed, and 1617
package updates (to 1224 unique packages) were processed since the
pkgsrc-2017Q2 release.

This branch is the last to contain qt3/kde3. The 2017Q4 branch will
be the last to contain apache 2.2, which is recently EOL.

Instructions on using the binary package manager can be found at
http://pkgin.net, and pkgsrc itself can be retrieved from
https://github.com/NetBSD/pkgsrc or via cvs or tar file -- see
https://www.netbsd.org/docs/pkgsrc/getting.html. The branch name for
the 2017Q3 branch is "pkgsrc-2017Q3".

Greg
