What about a switch to enable/disable displaying them?
Even better: Giving each of them an ID and maintain a list of MESSAGE IDs
already displayed?
My main objection to MESSAGEs as currently implemented is that every time I 
do a quaterly update, I get a bunch of them I've already seen a hundred times 
(If you update from version 1.x, please note that ...) which may be very 
helpful the first time, but useless the hundredths.
And so I may overlook the one that actually applies to me.
