Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
As an aside, IRIX does have versioned ELF libraries, but I guess it's their
own thing. Their ld(1) has a -set_version argument that puts a DT_MIPS_VERSION
field with a colon-delimited string of compatible versions in the dynamic
section. I'm not sure if it would have helped in the current case, though.
