How about drop PHP-5.2 from pkgsrc?
I think it is next step and there are a few packages supported by only
php52. (www/phraseanet should be built with php53 or php54).

        lang/php5-perl
        multimedia/php-ming

Oh, I've just forgotten about php-ming.
After PHP-5.3, php extension is not included in PHP itself,
but installable with PECL:
  http://www.php.net/manual/en/ming.install.php

I'll fix the issue.

Now lang/php5-perl and multimedia/php-ming support PHP-5.3.

For www/phraseanet, the restriction came from sysutils/php-fileinfo.
 http://pecl.php.net/package/fileinfo
As of PHP 5.3.0 this extension is builtin module.
