Supported Fetch Mechanisms?

Hello,
Aside from http and ftp, are there any other supported means of fetching
source files for a pkgsrc package?  A search of this lists' archives turned
up a 2003 inquiry[1] into using CVS.  CVS appears to come with the base
install so it seems like a plausible option.  If not, what would be the
steps for submitting a "snapshot" to the release engineering FTP server
for package maintainers that don't have commit privileges?
