Of course, on Solaris 2.6:

   small-gods# touch foo
   small-gods# chown root.sys foo
   chown: unknown user id root.sys
   small-gods# chown root:sys foo
   small-gods# 

Perhaps the script should use separate invocations of chown and chgrp
if portability is the goal.
