Um... one reason there was a "." in there was that the MAKEDEV script
may not always run under NetBSD, but sometimes also under some other
machine setting up an environment for a netboot. at least for ultrix and
sunos, I'm not sure if the can cope with your change.

maybe you should make sure that still works (or revert this, to remain on
the save side)
