I think this was wrong.  ELF shlib major tracks aBi, not aPi!!!
Anyone reading this commit message in isolation will be puzzled and
confused.

Since C doesn't encode argument types in a mangled symbol name the old
binaries will still get all the symbols they need, and since the API
change didn't change the actual behaviour (old code did not really
modify any of the strings), nothing really is changed in the shlib ELF
interface behaviour.

It's too late to undo now, but please please please, can we avoid
cargo cult changes like this!
