I could use sysutils/ovmf with
builder='hvm'
bios='ovmf'
in the Xen config file with Xen 4.18. I seens to not work anymore with
4.20, failing with memory allocation issues. I didn't have time to
investigate yet

BTW Ubuntu 24.4 works for me on old BIOS-based machine but it was an
upgrade from older version, not a fresh install
